Art Therapy

Art Psychotherapy integrates traditional talking therapy with creative expression, offering a safe and confidential space to explore thoughts and emotions. Alongside conversation, you may choose to engage with various art forms, such as painting, drawing, collage, clay, writing, poetry, photography, or music. Creativity can provide deeper insights, offering a way to express feelings that words alone may not capture.

No artistic experience is necessary, only a willingness to explore and express yourself in a way that feels natural to you. Through imagery, symbols, and metaphor, we can access emotions and experiences in a unique and meaningful way.

As a therapist, I do not interpret your creative process but instead encourage curiosity and reflection. Together, we will explore your artwork and thoughts, identifying what best supports your mental health and overall wellbeing.

Psychotherapy can be a transformative experience. People seek therapy for many reasons—whether to process difficult life events, explore the past, navigate distressing emotions, or work towards personal goals. Here, you will find a non-judgmental space to focus on yourself and your journey.

Approach

I bring an empathetic, warm approach to my work, deeply aware of how identity and social context shape individual experiences. My practice is rooted in the social model of intersectionality, disability and a commitment to reflective, anti-oppressive principles.

Experience:

I am a dedicated Art Psychotherapist working in private practice, offering a deeply supportive and creative space for a select number of clients. In addition to my private work, I collaborate with a range of organisations, providing both individual and group art therapy to diverse communities.

At Maggie’s Centre Manchester, I support visitors affected by cancer, helping them navigate their emotional journeys through art. At Greater Manchester Rape Crisis (GMRC), I facilitate group art therapy for the South Asian Women’s Group, fostering healing and empowerment. This work has led to inspiring collaborations with Manchester Art Gallery as part of their health and wellbeing initiatives.

I have also worked with Gordon Moody’s rehabilitation program, providing art therapy for men recovering from gambling addiction, and contributed to The Arts and Health Hub, facilitating peer-to-peer mental health support through creative expression.

With over two decades in education, working in pupil referral units, alternative provisions, and mainstream schools, I have gained profound insight into the complexities of young people’s mental health. This background continues to inform my practice, as I now work therapeutically with students in alternative provisions in Manchester, supporting their emotional resilience through art therapy.

My work is driven by a passion for using creative expression as a powerful tool for healing, resilience, and personal growth.

I provide face-to-face sessions in Heaton Moor, Stockport. I have spaces available on Friday mornings. If you would like to inquire please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
